National Core Arts Standards – Audit for Music Educators
Integrate and assess the National Core Arts Standards in your classroom today.
The National Core Arts Standards (NCAS) marked a transition from the skill-focused guidelines created in 1994 to those that foster musical understanding and independence in 2014. The standards emphasize the actionable musical processes of creating, performing, and responding, aiming to achieve comprehensive music literacy.
The National Core Art Standards Audit is designed to help music educators integrate and assess the NCAS in their classrooms. The audit is structured as a Google Sheet that teachers can customize for their classes to track engagement with different artistic processes and standards over time.
Using the NCAS Audit:
An audit is a method of reviewing processes, systems, or outcomes to gain a better understanding of the big picture.
The audit is not a checklist. The goal is not to check off each item once and be done with it. The purpose is to understand which of the National Core Arts Standards (NCAS) your students are engaging with in a specified amount of time.
